We understand that many of our customers have to work and/or do not have time to watch Betfair all day, so we have been looking for a product that we feel would allow our customers the chance to safely automate their betting.
The common name that people seem to use to describe software of this nature is “Betting Bot”, so what exactly is a betting bot?
Well generally they are programs that allow you to connect to sites like Betfair and replace the normal browser interface. Usually they have settings that allow you to pick particular races or runners and then bet based on the price. The best ones include safety features that allow you to stop betting once you have reached your target profit or loss.
Once you have set the bot up you can then leave it to watch the markets and then bet only if it meets your criteria.
While looking at possible products to recommend we set out with 4 clear objectives in mind.
- Safe
- Good Support
- Flexible
- Regular updates
Safe
If you are going to allow something to bet on your behalf you need to know it is safe and has passed some sort of test. It became clear early on that software that used Betfair and their API (this is secure link between the software and Betfair) had to have what is known as a Vendor ID and the only way you could get this was by allowing Betfair to run a security test on the software.
This meant that any software that had a Vendor ID and worked with Betfair had shown to be secure and followed Betfair’s interface guidelines.
Flexible
We have quite a few products so it was essential that any software worthy of our recommendation had to allow our customers to use it in a variety of ways. We were actually quite surprised that many of the products we tested were only able to “back” or “lay”. Many were specialised for 1 market or one type of trading and plenty were just created to run one system.
We did find one though that was very flexible and we will tell you about this in a moment.
Support
We didn’t want to recommend a product to our customers unless we knew that there was going to be a good support structure in place for any questions or help that was required.
Regular updates
Finally we wanted to make sure that the software we were going to recommend was regularly updated and improved and that the owners would take on board recommendations from their customers.
With all the above in mind we settled on GHB from Sporting Bots Limited.

Why? Initially it was customer feedback that led us to GHB, satisfied customers that were using the product but also:
1. GHB uses Betfair and has a Vendor ID from Betfair. GHB has plenty of options built in that allow you to stop betting after wins or losses based on monetary value or a number.
2. GHB is flexible. In “manual” mode you can choose your runners and set up the price range. In “auto” mode you can select runners based on price or their betting order as well as a number of other factors. GHB can take into account NR’s (non runners) and start betting anytime before the race or “in-play”.
Paul Fowlie has been testing it with his systems and is also recommending GHB for his Dodgy Favourites system.
3. Sporting Bots Ltd has
email support, a help system, forum and phone support.
If you use the forum, many of their users will also answer your questions.
4. GHB is
probably one of the most updated bots on the net. It was first released over 2 years ago and since then has had regular updates every 4 to 6 weeks.
So GHB checked all the boxes. It would be wrong to suggest GHB can do anything and bet in anyway possible, but it can run most systems.
GHB is really easy to install (they have improved this in the latest version) and has a full manual as well as video’s.
